Moved by murals Meklit had witnessed at Ethiopian Orthodox churches in the historical city of Gondar, SABAWI displays ancient Ethiopian painting style which commonly portrayed faces of angles and deities with wider eyes. SABAWI chants of its African roots, harmonizing bold colors and patterns with curious-looking faces in one print and of warriors in the other.
